FAQ
You asked, I answered
How do I need to get ready?
Have your home prepared to your comfort with an open space large enough for about a twin sized bed. I need enough space for you to lie down and allow me to walk around you. Your home doesn't have to be spotless - I have kids, I get it! If you have to move furniture around please have that arranged before I arrive. While I'm pet friendly, any animals should be secured in another room. Before booking I'll send you a form asking for some medical information such as injuries, surgeries, and medications which is necessary to provide you with safe and effective care. Plan to have an additional 15 minutes before and after your appointment to accommodate for set up and break down.
Do I have to get naked-naked?
Only if you want! You'll be securely covered throughout the massage regardless of which you chose. If you're unsure or feeling nervous the most important thing to remember is that if you can't relax you're not getting the full benefit of massage. While it's more conventional to be fully nude, it's completely a matter of personal preference. You'll be given complete privacy to dress and undress during your session. For lymphatic massage you'll be provided with a set of disposable bra and panties.
Does it hurt?
No matter what massage you get you can always have tender areas. Typically a Swedish massage is gentle with no pain. With Deep Tissue and Myofascial things can be different. Keep in mind there's different degrees of pain. There's "that's rough but it feels good" pain, and there's "I don't like that, stop" pain. Massage should always fall in the former. At any point in the massage you can ask for more or less pressure and I'm happy to accommodate. Now.. myofascial.. this can be uncomfortable. Working without lotion or oil means there's a lot of friction, and that friction is exactly what breaks up the connective tissue which we want. If at any point it's too much we can transition into a different style massage. Most importantly DO NOT take a pain reliever prior to your massage in anticipation that it might hurt.
When is a massage a no-go?
Pretty standard stuff. If you have a fever cold or virus you should reschedule your massage. Skin conditions like sun burn and contagious infections are another reason you shouldn't get massaged. If you're working with a health condition like cancer, heart or circulatory conditions, pregnancy, etc. I always recommend that you consult with your treating provider first. Minor things like cuts/bruising/burns can be worked around with modifications and adjustments.
I don't have a sitter, is that a problem?
Childcare isn't always reliable, I get that. But it's totally up to you. You know your kids best and how they'll tolerate an hour or more by themselves. If you feel like they may be distracting and it'll take away from your experience we can always book at another time. But if you're comfortable it's fine with me. The way I look at it is it's incredibly valuable for them to witness taking time for self-care.
What's the experience like?
For everyone it's different but it should feel deeply relaxing. Some clients feel completely zenned out. Especially in the Reiki massage it can feel like an out of body experience, but not everyone always feels that way. That's not to say massage is fool proof. Plenty of people still have anxious or racing thoughts during a massage and that's completely normal. Your body needs time to adjust to this new practice and learn to give itself permission to relax. You may experience pain relief, increase range of motion, and decreased muscle tension. With Deep Tissue and Myofascial it's normal to feel a little sore the next day, warm showers and epsom salt baths can help with that.
Do you offer silent massages?
Sure do! Lots of clients like to zone out, listen to the ambient music, and have their time completely in silence. While there may be some times I have to give some instruction on body positioning. Other clients love to use their sessions to yap, and that's ok too! As long as it's not distracting from the massage. Everything boils down to personal preference and it's my goal to tailor the experience to best suit you.
How do I book?
To book an appointment fill out my booking form and I'll be in touch to set a date. Once we agree on a day and time I'll send you a payment request through CashApp, Venmo, or Zelle (your choice) for 50% of your service. Your deposit is due within 24 hours or you may lose your preferred appointment time. The day of your massage you can pay the remainder of your service through one of the payment platforms or in cash.
What's the travel fee?
Travel fees only apply to individual clients outside of Union County. The fee varies based on distance and is calculated by overall travel time there and back. I don't charge for tolls. For full day bookings within a 1 hour commute travel fees are waived.
How do the lymphatic packages
work?
When booking only 50% of the original massage is due. Payment for the remainder of the package is due in full at time of purchase. It's up to you if you want to apply that day's massage to the package or use the package for next time. Package pricing cannot be applied to past massages.
Do you offer aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is an option at no additional charge. When booking just specify that you're interested in aromatherapy and we'll go over different options such as candles, sage, incense, and infused oils.
Are tips expected?
Tips are always appreciated, but never expected. If you're happy with your service and had an exceptional experience you can always show your appreciation with a gratuity. The average tip is 10-25% and is always a welcome way to express your gratitude for my service.
